A to Z April: G – Gender

The METAL counsellor directs the patient into their plush office, furnished tastefully with several comfortable chairs and talking points to aid conversation. This part of the process was crucial, their job is to ensure the mental capacity of the patient in order to judge whether they are able to cope with the recovery and future existence with the enhancements.

‘Thank you for coming today, when I read your file I was excited to have the opportunity to speak with you. I am sure by now you know the work we have put into reproductive organ enhancement. Although not in circulation, it is something we are working on fervently.”

The patient sheepishly judges the room and decides to perch on a plush fabric couch, while it looked firm it was surprisingly soft when they sat down.

“Patients have requested a number of adjustments to their genitalia: enlargement, reduction, reshaping, lengthening or shortening, there is no limit to the requests we’ve received and we are looking forward to being able to address all of them in time, it just takes the breakthroughs we have planned over the next few months to land nicely into our laps and we can begin taking appointments for augmentations to begin.” The counsellor was evidently excited to discuss the body parts at hand.

“I don’t want a genital enhancement. Well, I do…” The patient was rooted to the couch, hands tucked under their legs and shoulders hunched up, face angled down to the lavish rug covering the beautifully waxed hardwood floor. These details are all chosen specifically by the counsellor to create a warm and welcoming environment for his patients.

“Is there something else you’d like to discuss?”

The patient shifted uncomfortably, the weight of the world was on their shoulders. The counsellor stood and paced around the room, running a finger along a table, swivelling a chair and coming to rest behind their own desk across the room.

“I understand, would you wish to receive the opposite sex genitalia and reproductive organs in exchange for your own?”

Hearing someone else say it was an instant relief.

“Yes.”

“Enhanced humanity has not progressed into the gender altering process just yet, but with your help it could happen, it would require your time and energy to go through rigorous research testing are you on board?”

“Absolutely”

“You’re confident, we like that here at METAL. It was that determination that led us to where we are today. We’ll be in touch. We can’t take immediate action but you can rely on the curiosity of our scientists to spark when they hear what I’ve got to tell them thanks to you.”

The patient lays down onto the hospital bed and the frame is put up separating the patient from visible view of their bottom half.

The room is abuzz with surgeons. The viewing mirror inset into a nearby wall provided a spectacle for a gallery of fellow colleagues. Researchers, marketing staff and counsellors all present for their own projects. They were all anticipating the results, the potential for extracting and implanting of a full set of reproductive organs was groundbreaking. The air was thick with tension as the first sensation testing begins.

“Incision made, widening the wound.”

“Probing in 3…”

“2…”
